So what are the English language proficiency tests?
International students take English proficiency tests such as IELTS, TOEFL, Duolingo English Test or Cambridge Advanced English to test their English language skills.

US universities and colleges require English language scores when applying to study abroad, and even if this baseline score is met, admission is determined based on the average of the students applying that year and other additional materials.

General Information
Each visa applicant, including children, must complete the DS-160 form. The DS-160 form must be completed and submitted online before your interview at the U.S. Embassy/Consulate. The barcode on the DS-160 confirmation page will be used to schedule your interview. The DS-160 form must be completed online.
The U.S. Embassy/Consulate will not accept handwritten or typed applications and will not allow you to be interviewed without the DS-160 confirmation page.
Note: By signing the DS-160 form online, you are certifying that all information you have provided is true and correct. Any false or misleading information will result in your inadmissibility to the United States. Please ensure that you have answered all questions correctly and completely.

Instructions for Completing the DS-160
Before you can schedule an interview at a U.S. Embassy/Consulate, you must complete and submit the DS-160 online.

The interview location you selected at the beginning of the DS-160 form must be the same as your scheduled interview location.

You must answer all questions in English, using the English alphabet, except for the one that requires you to write your full name in your native language.

After 20 minutes of inactivity, the DS-160 will “time out” and your information will be deleted. To prevent data loss, click the “Save” button repeatedly to download the file to your computer. Browse to the location where you saved the DS-160 file on your computer, and click “Save” in the “Save as” window.

You must upload a photo when you submit the DS-160 form. Click here for specific instructions on photo requirements. When you print the DS-160 confirmation page (see the next step), your photo should appear on the page. If your photo is not on the confirmation page, or if you are unable to upload a photo, please bring a copy of the photo to your visa interview. Most photo shops are experienced in taking visa photos and will take the correct size photos if you tell them you are taking a U.S. visa photo.

When you are finished completing the DS-160 form, a confirmation page with an alphanumeric barcode will appear. Print this page.

After you print the confirmation page with the barcode, click the “Back” button to send a copy of the DS-160 form to your email address. The file you receive will be in PDF format and can be opened and printed with Adobe Acrobat.
